For over 150 years, the YMCA has served communities around the world helping to build stronger kids, stronger families and stronger communities.

In 1992, the YMCA opened its first facility in Cleveland County. Since then, the Y has built an exceptional legacy of leadership, providing vision and support to a variety of operations across the region. The Cleveland County Family YMCA once again has a tremendous opportunity to impact and serve the community by building a full service facility branch in Boiling Springs.

In 1997, a dynamic partnership was formed between the Cleveland County Family YMCA and the town of Boiling Springs; the primary goal was to serve this fast growing community by providing public recreation. That goal was met when the current, program-centered, storefront facility opened. Now, this dynamic partnership has another vision ...through the campaign, the YMCA and the Town of Boiling Springs are committed to building a new thriving 30-acre recreational campus.

In anticipation of this effort, in August 2004, a 30-acre tract of land was purchased from the heirs of T. Carl and Marietta Hamrick. The property is on the corner of Patrick Avenue and Hwy 150.

Boiling Springs Rendering

Since inception, the Y in Boiling Springs has increased its budget by 70 percent; its current market penetration is 18 percent, exceeding the YMCA national average of 4 percent.

During the first eight months of 1998, a total of 100 boys and girls were enrolled in various programs and in the first four months of 2006, more than 700 boys and girls were enrolled in YMCA programs. As a result, youth programs continue to be the main source of revenue. Over the years, the YMCA has collaborated on these programs with countless churches, the local Little League, GWU, both township elementary schools and Crest Middle and High Schools.

The YMCA intends to continue its history of strong partnerships and programs that fulfill its mission of providing services that strengthen the spirit, mind and body. The programs will focus on quality initiatives that benefit children in the non-school hours, allowing parents to work without worry because their children are safe at the YMCA.

Boiling Springs Y Floor Plan

Goals:

  • Provide superior recreational opportunities for the fast growing, family community. Continue to serve as the town's recreation provider and meet the growing demand for recreation.
  • Serve the fast growing number of youth under the age of 19, providing safe and wholesome activities.
  • Become a central place of pride that is a unifying source from all facets of the community.
  • Enhance the image of Boiling Springs and assist the community as it finds a niche in the county's economic development efforts.
  • Drive an initiative for community health and health related opportunities for all ages.

The Strong Foundation, Healthy Community Campaign is comprised of three components: Community Outreach, Capital and Endowment. These components are strategically integrated to ensure the Boiling Springs YMCA continues to meet community needs at the highest level of quality and excellence. Unprecedented in the association fund-raising efforts, this comprehensive approach is designed to uplift the annual We Build People Campaign, while funding the capital project and ensuring long-term stability through endowment.

Facilities to Serve:

Since 1997, the Boiling Springs YMCA has programs and services to the community from a small storefront facility in the heart of town. With the support of county leaders, the YMCA Association Board, staff, members and the community at large, the Boiling Springs YMCA is poised for additional revitalization through the establishment of a full-service YMCA.

Designed in response to community needs, the 30,000 square foot branch will include a fitness center, gymnasium, multi-purpose areas, aerobic center and an outdoor water park. On a 30-acre campus, there will be additional fields, outdoor walking trails and picnic areas. A highlight of the project will be the development of a Community Learning Center. This center will have a bookstore type feel while functioning in the fashion of a library. This concept will create even more energy to this transformational community venture. All of these components will provide a major enhancement and compliment the other YMCA facilities across the county

Endowing the Future:

The Cleveland County Family YMCA is committed to offering top quality facilities and programs. The partnership between the Y and its donors is vital and we are dedicated to maintaining the trust donors place in us when making an investment in our organization. Integral to our plan is the endowment strategy for this new facility. It is our vision and pledge that this facility connects and serves in an unparalleled manner, long into the future. An endowment will be put into place to ensure that the funds will be available for future repairs and renovations and that the donor investments made today will grow exponentially.

Fulfilling the Mission:

The Boiling Springs YMCA is committed to pay the standard membership and/or program fees. People in need of assistance are eligible to receive subsidies based on income and individual needs through our annual We Build People Campaign. As participation in programs and memberships increase, it is imperative the YMCA ensures it can serve everyone, despite their financial challenges.

In closing, the case for the establishment of a viable full service facility is a priority not only for the YMCA but also for the community at large. The growth of the western part of Cleveland County is evident in feasibility studies, economic development studies and other regional reports. The YMCA has a unique opportunity to become the community nucleus serving as a resource and a place for people to connect, learn, play and celebrate. Please consider joining our county civic and corporate leaders in supporting the Strong Foundation, Healthy Community Campaign.
